Dancing in the No-Fly Zone

Hello!

It’s been awhile since our last update, so here’s what’s been keeping us busy...

On May 31 at 7pm, Hadani Ditmars reads from her best selling book Dancing in the No Fly Zone: a Woman’s Journey Through Iraq and discusses Iraqi culture under siege. The event will be accompanied by Iraqi visual artists Riad Hashim, Nabil Ali and Jabbar Al Janabi.

Her critically acclaimed book documents the old secular culture in Iraq that survived sanctions and Saddam, but not invasion and occupation.

“Not just another batch of war stories, Ditmars’ fine reports from Iraq reveal aspects of the country — both pre- and post-invasion — that the battlefield junkies overlook. From the comic actor who adores Mr Bean and the conductor who brings Berlioz to Baghdad to the artists and cabaret stars, she seeks out Iraq’s dogged creative spirits, and touches places in the nation’s soul that horror headlines never reach.”

— Boyd Tonkin, the London Independent

This show is one night only, so please RSVP to the Facebook event if you’re planning on attending.
